The most common reason people fall off a veg box subscription isn't the cost. It's the celeriac. The thing arrives week after week, nobody quite knows what to do with it, it sits at the back of the fridge developing opinions of its own, and eventually the whole subscription gets cancelled.
We've thought a lot about this. Which is why customisation isn't an afterthought at London Veg Box — it's the whole point.
How it works
Every Tuesday morning, before your box is packed, you get an email. It shows you what's in this week's delivery, chosen around what's freshest from our growers right now. From there, you've got a few minutes to shape it.
Tell us your top three — the things you're most excited about this week. Tell us your bottom three — the things you'd rather swap out. And if there's something you absolutely never want to see again, add it to your do-not-send list and we'll make sure it stays off the van.
It takes less time than deciding what to order on Deliveroo, and the result is a box that actually works for your kitchen.
Why this matters more than it sounds
Eating well is mostly a logistics problem. If the right food is in your fridge, you cook with it. If it isn't, or if it's something you don't recognise and don't know how to cook, you reach for something else. Healthy eating doesn't require motivation or discipline half as much as it requires a well-stocked, well-chosen fridge.
A box you've shaped yourself is a box you'll actually use. The kohlrabi goes to someone who wants it. You get more of the cavolo nero. Everything gets cooked, nothing gets wasted, and by the end of the week the fridge is empty in the satisfying way rather than the guilty way.
The variety you didn't know you needed
There's a balance to strike here. Too much flexibility and you'd just end up ordering carrots and potatoes every week. Too little and you're stuck with whatever the season throws at you, whether you like it or not.
What we've found is that the best boxes are guided by the season — we make sure you're eating what's genuinely at its best right now — but steered by you. The result is that most customers end up cooking more variety than they would have chosen for themselves, while never feeling like they're being forced into anything. You might tell us you're not sure about purple sprouting broccoli, try it once because it slipped through, and end up adding it to your favourites. It happens more than you'd think.
Built around your life, not the other way round
The customisation doesn't stop at what's in the box. The subscription itself is designed to flex. Going away? Skip that week. Cooking for a crowd? Upsize. Need a break? Pause for as long as you like and come back when you're ready.
The only thing to remember is the Monday night cut-off — any changes to your order need to be in before 10pm the night before delivery. After that, the van is loaded and we're on our way.
The bottom line
A veg box that ignores your preferences isn't a convenience — it's just another thing to deal with. One that actually listens is something else: a weekly delivery of produce you're genuinely happy to see, from farms you can trust, that makes cooking feel like less of an effort and more of a pleasure.
That's what we're aiming for every Tuesday.
